Community leaders have challenged education chiefs to work with them to protect and improve the fortunes of a West Norfolk village school which is facing closure.
A formal proposal to merge the Wormegay CE Primary School with its federated institution in Runcton Holme has been submitted to regional education chiefs.
The group which runs both schools, the Diocese of Ely Multi-Academy Trust (DEMAT), says a public consultation, launched in January, showed majority support for its plan.

But parish councillors in Wormegay and neighbouring Tottenhill say they don t accept DEMAT s claim that expected continuing falls in pupil numbers make the merger plan necessary. ....

A West Norfolk primary school governor has resigned in protest at its proposed closure â accusing education chiefs of behaving âcallouslyâ towards its community.
The body that runs Wormegay CE Primary has claimed the plan to shut it and move pupils to a partner school in Runcton Holme is necessary because of falling pupil numbers.
But Sarah Hayman says that is down to poor management by its sponsor, the Diocese of Ely Multi-Academy Trust (DEMAT).

In her resignation letter, she said many parents had yet to tell their children about the proposal, which is the subject of an ongoing public consultation, because of the likely upset it would cause. ....

A Norfolk village school with just 26 pupils could be closed.
Governing body the Diocese of Ely Multi Academies Trust (DEMAT) is consulting parents over the future of Wormegay Primary School, near King s Lynn.
It says if pupil numbers continue to fall at the rate predicted by its forecasts, the school will have just six by 2023.
DEMAT wants to close the school at the end of the summer term before merging it with Runcton Holme Primary School three miles away, which has a capacity of 70 pupils but 26 on its roll. ....
