Graduating Buckeye Career Center seniors heading to the military

Each learned a trade, or two, while studying for two years at Buckeye Career Center.
But they have also joined the small number of young adults who enlist in the military before high school graduation.
I wanted to set up a good future for myself and serve my country. said Steiner, an East Sparta resident from Tuscarawas Valley High School.
His interest in the service stretches back to childhood. Steiner remembers being about 8 years old when he saw members of the military at a buffet restaurant where his family ate breakfast.
I ended up getting my mom to pay for their food, Steiner said. ....

The East Central Ohio Educational Service Center presented the Overcoming Obstacles Awards and the Excellence in Community Inclusion Award at Dover High School’s Auditorium on April 22.
The Overcoming Obstacles Awards started in 2015. They are presented to one student from each school district in Tuscarawas County for their dedication and perseverance in overcoming obstacles to achieve success in school. Buckeye Career Center students will advance in the virtual HOSA Future Health Professionals national competition in June.
Students who will compete in the health care issues exam include Autumn Brown, an exercise science student from Conotton Valley High School; Brianna Francis, an Intro to Nursing student from Dover High School; Jocelynn Nuske, an exercise science student from Carrollton High School; Ellie Stevenson, a homeschooled Intro to Nursing student; and Karla Western, an Intro to Nursing student from Claymont High School.
Medical assisting student Janelle Poleet, from Claymont, will compete in interviewing skills. Exercise science student Connor Harlan, from CHS, will compete in sports medicine. ....

Buckeye Career Center announces Students of the Month

Buckeye Career Center has announced Kody Ames and Autumn Brown as its January Students of the Month and Samantha Nicely as its Adult Student on the Month.
Ames, of New Philadelphia, is a meat cutting, deli and bakery student. He is a two-year member of Drug Free Clubs of America at BCC. He plans to continue his education next year at BCC. He is the son of Joyce Ames.
Brown, a student at Conotton Valley High School, is a level two senior in exercise science and sports medicine and a level one senior in auto technology. Brown is a two-year member of DFCA and Health Occupation Students of America. She made it to the state HOSA conference last year in human growth and development. She has played volleyball for eight years and is a six year band member at CVHS. She works for Kathy’s Catering. Brown plans to attend Bowling Green State University and obtain a master’s degree in athletic training. She is the daughter of Todd and Julie Herman. ....
