LONDON: Manchester United drew 0-0 with Leeds on Sunday to stay on track for a second-place finish in the Premier League after Burnley took a giant step towards survival.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men beat their bitter rivals 6-2 at Old Trafford in December but both sides looked short of energy and imagination in a lacklustre encounter at Elland Road.
The result takes United to 67 points after 33 games, 10 points behind champions-elect Manchester City but eight points clear of third-placed Leicester.
Solskjaer rested Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani with one eye on Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first leg against Roma and they lacked fluidity, especially in the first half. ....

LONDON - Aymeric Laporte s 82nd-minute header gave Manchester City a 1-0 win over Tottenham in the Carabao Cup final to give Pep Guardiola s side their first title of the season.
Laporte nodded home a free kick taken by Kevin de Bruyne. Manchester City dominated the game from start to finish with 13 shots against a rival that managed just one shot.
Manchester City have now won the Carabao Cup for four consecutive seasons, which should be a huge morale boost ahead of the first leg of their Champions League semifinal against Paris Saint-Germain this week. ....

Wood matches Aubameyang's Premier League record with hat-trick in Burnley victory over Wolves

The attacker was at it again six minutes later when he doubled the Clarets lead tapping home his effort from close range after receiving a fine square pass from Dwight McNeil.
Wood then completed his hat-trick in style when he powered a fine header past goalkeeper Rui Patricio from McNeil’s cross moments before the end of the first half.
The 29-year-old thus became the first player from New Zealand to score a Premier League hat-trick, with New Zealand now the 46th different nation to be represented by a hat-trick scorer in the competition, and the first new nation since Gabon through Aubameyang. ....

Nuno can't explain why 'many many' things went wrong for Wolves

Date published: Sunday 25th April 2021 3:24 - Neil Foster
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo felt nothing went right for his side as they were hammered 4-0 by Burnley at Molineux.
The West Midlanders went into the match having won back-to-back Premier League games. But they left with their tails very much between their legs after
Chris Wood’s first-half hat-trick. The home defence could not cope with a rampant Clarets front line. And Ashley Westwood
ended the rout with five minutes to go as Wood racked up an assist.
It was a superb display by the Turf moor outfit and one that leaves them nine points clear of the relegation zone. For Wolves, it was another stark reminder of just ....

Wood treble sees Burnley thrash Wolves to ease relegation worries

Wood treble sees Burnley thrash Wolves to ease relegation worries
Date published: Sunday 25th April 2021 1:55 - Neil Foster
A superb first-half hat-trick by striker Chris Wood was enough to give Burnley a 4-0 victory over Wolves at Molineux and ease any relegation fears.
The opening 45 minutes made it clear which team was driven by the hunger and desire of something to play for. Wolves, who have known for some time that they would probably finish in mid-table obscurity, improved marginally in the second half.
They only conceded one more goal when Ashley Westwood struck five minutes from time.
Sean Dyche’s team headed to the West Midlands in no immediate threat of relegation, despite three successive defeats. That was mostly due to Fulham’s inability to put any pressure on the teams above them. ....
