THE chairman of the Friends of Burnham-on-Sea War Memorial Hospital charity has taken the decision to retire after 20 years of service.
Bernie Spilsbury has worked tirelessly for the Friends - a charitable foundation dedicated to improving the lives of everyone needing help within the community - during his two decades on the committee, holding the role of chairman for the last five years.
In that time he has driven forward several innovative ideas while also being involved in other groups - with those contacts being of benefit to the hospital.
In 2019, Bernie was presented with a Civic Award for Services to Charity. ....

Over 120 local people set to take part in Burnham-On-Sea beach walk for hospital

Over 120 local people set to take part in Burnham-On-Sea beach walk for hospital
Around 120 local people are signed up to take part in a Sponsored Walk this Saturday (April 24th) to support the Friends of Burnham-On-Sea Memorial hospital.
Around 50 people will be walking the full distance to Brean and back while others will be walking to Berrow.
By popular demand, the organisers say that there is now also the option for those with young children or people that just don’t fancy the longer routes of taking a shorter walk to the lighthouse on the beach.
Organiser Mike Barsby adds: “All walkers will start and finish from the check-in gazebo outside Burnham’s Ritz Social Club where free refreshments will be available with the compliments of The Ritz. Certificates of achievement will be given to everyone on their return.” ....

The 12 Somerset hospitals with NO Covid patients as cases continue to drop

THERE were two fresh Covid-19 cases recorded in each of the four Somerset districts in the latest 24-hour figures.
The running totals of confirmed cases in each district since the start of the pandemic are South Somerset 5,427; Somerset West and Taunton 5,939; Sedgemoor 5,333; Mendip 3,436.
The infection rates based on the latest rolling seven-day figures have fallen below 20 cases per 100,000 people in all four districts.
The rates are South Somerset 12.5 (down from 17.2 the previous day); SWT 9.7 (no change); Sedgemoor 11.4 (down from 17); Mendip 19.9 (down from 20.8).
The downward trend comes as it emerges there are no Covid patients in the 12 hospitals managed by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, which includes Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton; Bridgwater Community Hospital; Burnham-on-Sea War Memorial Hospital; Crewkerne Community Hospital; Dene Barton Community Hospital, in Cotford St Luke; Frome Community Hospital; Minehead Community Hospital; Shepton ....
