Grimshaw disguises Chalfont St Giles HS2 ventilation shaft as barn

Architecture studio Grimshaw has revealed its latest barn-shaped ventilation shaft that will be built near Chalfont St Giles in the Chilterns as part of the UK s HS2 high-speed railway.
Designed as the partner to the Chalfont St Peter ventilation shaft, which was also designed by Grimshaw, the headhouse building for the shaft will be disguised as barn to lessen its impact on the surrounding countryside.
As with the shafts at Chalfont St Peter, Little Missenden and Amersham, the Chalfont St Giles shaft will provide ventilation to a 10-mile-long tunnel that is being built for High Speed 2 (HS2) under the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). ....

HS2 launches search for track switch supplier
HS2 Ltd has launched a search for contractors to supply track switches and crossings for the 280km line between London, Birmingham and Crewe.
The contract is valued at £156M and includes the design, manufacture and delivery of around 180 track switches and crossings for Phase 1 and 2a. HS2 Ltd has included an option to extend the contract for further track switches in Phase 2b to Manchester.
The switches and crossings will be a vital component of the HS2 track systems. They will be designed to operate smoothly, reliably and safely at line speeds of up to 360km/h and diverging line speeds up to 230km/h. The contract also includes around 77 rail expansion devices for track on viaducts and bridges. ....

HS2 Ltd has launched a £47M framework covering station building systems for the High Speed 2 (HS2) phase one stations between London and the West Midlands.
The framework contract will cover components and systems that will be common to all four stations – London Euston, Old Oak Common, Birmingham Interchange and Birmingham Curzon Street.
A Balfour Beatty, Vinci, Systra JV will lead the construction of Old Oak Common, while Euston station construction will be carried out by a joint venture between Mace and Dragados. ....
