In all, 204 bird species were recorded in Mysuru-Mandya-Chamarajanagar belt during the single-day winter bird monitoring programme for 2020-21 held in January this year.

This worldwide annual event is in its 24th year. National Great Rivers Research & Education Center Environmental Educator Jen Young says that in 2020 there were more than 27 million birds counted.
There were over 250,000 participants in over 194 countries, Young said. There were also over 7,000 species of birds identified. ....

Chamarajanagar: After the successful Bird Festival in Biligiri Ranganatha Tiger (BRT) and Bird Census at Nagarahole Tiger Reserve, the Forest Department is conducting a Bird Census at
Bandipur Tiger Reserve from tomorrow.
It will be held for three days and the Reserve is playing host to such an exercise after a gap of 18 years. Over 104 volunteers from Bengaluru, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have registered in the Forest Department website and the census will be held along with the Department employees of 13 Ranges of Bandipur and students from College of Forestry in Ponnampet, Kodagu District. ....

20th Annual Community Bird Census

The following was submitted by the Ocean View Foundation:
Feel free to participate as much or as little as you would like. The Bird Census will take place on Saturday, Dec. 26.
1. Kim Gaffett will have a spotting scope set up at Sachem Pond to look at, and count, winter ducks between 9 and 10 a.m. If you would like to take a look at what’s on the pond with Kim email her at Kimgaffett@gmail.com to reserve a 10 to 15 minute time slot. Masks will be required.
2. During the middle of the day, participants will employ whatever means desirable to make a list of birds seen that day. The options for making these observations range from taking one or more walks, to watching your bird feeder from the warmth of your house. Contact Kim to let her know what area of the island you will be birding, or if you would like to have an area of the island assigned to you. ....
