Ebb & Flow Arts to release a new CD, ‘Premiere Recordings’ By Staff | Jul 2, 2021 KEOKEA Ebb & Flow Arts will soon release its fifth commercial CD. “Premiere Recordings” will comprise several works that have never been recorded. This CD, produced during the pandemic, comprises six pieces: “Music for Two Pianos” by George Walker; “Polyphonic Songs” for solo violin by Shinhee Park; “Glissées” for solo cello by Isang Yun; “Trio” for violin, cello and piano by Edward T. Cone; “Five Preludes” for piano by Vivian Fine; and “Fata Morgana” for solo piano by Winston Choi. The dates of composition range from 1939 to 2018. ....

Diamond Head Theatre and the Honolulu Theatre for Youth were financially stable and expanding their audiences, Kumu Kahua Theatre was preparing for its 50th season, the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra welcomed a new director, and the Hawai‘i Opera Theatre was working on making its opera more relevant to the Islands.
Then, the coronavirus forced them to lower their curtains midseason. Stay-at-home and social distancing mandates shut down in-person performances, and while the organizations were assisted by Paycheck Protection Program loans and other financial support, revenues shrank. ....
Center announces additional ‘Live @ the MACC’ streaming events By Staff | Dec 18, 2020 Gypsy Pacific is a vibrant gypsy-jazz band based on Maui. From left, bassist Marcus Johnson, guitarists Tom Conway and Phil Benoit, and violinist Willy Wainwright have been performing and recording in Hawaii for nearly 20 years. KAHULUI The Maui Arts & Cultural Center recently launched its “Live @ the MACC” series. The series consists of rock, pop, holiday and Hawaiian music concerts, hula and contemporary dance performances as well as the visual arts. Each event will be Saturday night at 7:30 p.m., but instead of the audience coming to the center, The MACC will come to its audiences, live-streamed on the MACC website as well as its Facebook and YouTube pages. ....
