Today marks a pivotal moment in our nation’s ongoing reckoning with racism. George Floyd’s murder follows a centuries-long series of senseless killings of Black people in this country; and while today’s verdict cannot bring Mr. Floyd back, today his murderer was held responsible by our justice system.
This verdict by no means ends the need for the hard work of moving towards a world where all people are treated with respect, and where Black people and others who face systemic oppression no longer must fear for their lives as they go about their days. Here at Cornell, we will continue to vigorously pursue racial equity and social justice on campus, and we will continue to ask, as we approach every decision we make, how it impacts those goals. ....

Student Government remains voice of IUP for many students

The Student Government Association (SGA) serves as a voice for IUP students as well as a chance for students to get involved in representing the interests of the university.
Since its formation in the 1930s, the organization has expanded in its commitment to ensure university students are heard.
The SGA is connected to the IUP administration and thus serves on the University Senate that recommends university policies to President Michael Driscoll.
Members of the organization are responsible for numerous activities and regularly selected to serve on university committees to ensure fair representation of the student body. These include serving on Student Conduct boards, Student Organization Review boards and grade appeal committees. Additionally, they help manage the IUP Student Activity Fee with the IUP Student Cooperative Association. ....

Office of the Dean of Students announces three new leaders

The Office of the Dean of Students, in the Division of Student and Campus Life, has announced three new staff members, two joining the Diversity and Inclusion team and one joining the Care and Crisis Services team.
The additions come on the heels of the launch of the Multicultural Student Leadership and Empowerment (MSL&E) program, expanding upon the work of Student Development and Diversity Initiatives. Its mission is to encourage student learning through co-curricular activities, and foster an inclusive campus environment.

Christian Abigail Gonzalez joins the Dean of Students’ Diversity and Inclusion team as associate director for student empowerment and undocumented/DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) student support. Jarvis Marlow-McCowin also joins the Diversity and Inclusion team as associate director for multicultural student leadership and empowerment. ....
