The Guadalupe County Commissioners Court recently recognized the Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers Program for its continued efforts to creatively and effectively assist law enforcement in their investigation of crimes throughout the county. This year’s recognition by the court, however, also included the honoring of the program’s chairman Ken Kiel. After leading the program for the last 10 years, Kiel has decided to step down from the Crime Stoppers board of directors. Calling what he describes as “tough shoes to fill is new Board Chairman David Reiley. Reiley says thanks to Kiel, Crime Stoppers has not only proven successful on a local level but it has also garnered plenty of recognition across the state. ....
DOT lets Hadley allow right turns on red onto Route 9 Route 9 in Hadley, Hampshire Mall. Josh Kuckens By SCOTT MERZBACH HADLEY Drivers traveling on Middle Street in town center should soon be able to make right turns on red lights onto Route 9. The state’s Department of Transportation recently informed Hadley officials that it has agreed to an appeal from the Select Board, made in October, to remove the “no turn on red” signs for southbound traffic on Middle Street, also known as state Route 47. Members of the Select Board asked for the adjustment as part of a strategy to encourage drivers, especially commuters between Amherst and Northampton, to stay on the roads maintained by the state, rather than use an alternate route along North Lane and the dike, and West Street, Cemetery Road and Cross Path Road. ....
