ECP set to remain incomplete as Punjab, KP members retire - Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) may remain incomplete for an indefinite period as its members from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are set to retire on Monday (today) with no signs in sight for their replacements.
The issue of appointment of ECP members from Sindh and Balochistan could not be resolved earlier for at least one year though the ECP members are to be appointed within 45 days of their retirement as per law.

The Balochistan High Court on Friday ordered the members of All Balochistan Employees and Workers Grand Alliance to end their sit-in immediately and ordered the government to hold purposeful talks with the protesting government employees and not take any action against them.
A two-judge divisional bench headed by BHC Chief Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel and Justice Kamran Mulakhel also ordered the imposition of cuts in non-development sector and increase revenue generation. Advocate General Arbab Tahir Kasi, finance secretary, additional chief secretary, and the commissioner of quetta appeared in court to face the petition filed by Advocate Munir Kakar and others pertaining to the sit-in ....

Local govt elections: ECP to meet Sindh, Balochistan, ICT reps on 11th

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will take up issues relating to the local government elections in Sindh, Balochistan and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) on February 11, as legal and administrative hiccups continue to impede the holding of elections.
Sources in the ECP said though the electoral body was geared up for conducting the local government elections [in the provinces and the federal capital], it awaited the provincial governments and the ICT administration to do the needful besides the official publication of the Population Census, 2017.
However, to have a fresh look at the matter and get updates from the provinces on the directions given to them earlier, the commission will meet here on February 11 at 10:00am. ....
