ISLAMABAD: Following in the footsteps of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), different bar councils and associations have also announced that they will observe black day on Wednesday (today) when the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) will deliberate on elevation of a junior judge of the Sindh High Court (SHC).
A day ahead of the scheduled JCP meeting, the PBC, a premier regulatory body of the lawyers, finally appointed senior counsel Akhtar Hussain to convey its concerns over the commission’s choice to fill the vacant office of a judge in the Supreme Court. ....

QUETTA: The newly-appointed judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, has said that the role of lawyers is very important in establishment of a justice-based society and it is the responsibility of the judges to provide justice to the people according to their oath.
“The powers of every institution have been defined in the Constitution and each institution should work within its jurisdiction. Provision of rights to people is the responsibility of the government. Democracy requires supremacy of the Constitution,” he said while speaking at a dinner jointly hosted by the Balochistan Bar Council, Balochistan High Court Bar Association (BHCBA) and the District Bar Association (DBA) of Quetta here on Sunday. ....

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) is expected to meet on July 5 to consider the elevation of Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, the Balochistan High Court’s Chief Justice, and Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar of the Sindh High Court to fill the vacant offices of judges in the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed will preside over the meeting.
The two offices fell vacant after Justice Faisal Arab reached superannuation on Nov 4 last year and Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik on April 30 this year. With the appointment of two judges, the Supreme Court will reach its stipulated strength of 17 judges. ....
