Dissident Pakistani groups in Canada termed the death of Karima Baloch as murder and demanded an investigation into the alleged killing of the human rights activist. The joint statement indicates the possibility of foul play by Pakistan authorities.
“Though the Toronto Police said that the death of Karima Baloch is investigated as a non-criminal death and there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances, we believe that given the threats to her life by Pakistani authorities because of her political activism, a much thorough investigation into the murder of Karima Baloch is needed,” said a joint statem ....

Canadian police have ruled the death of a prominent Pakistani rights activist in the city of Toronto to be “non-criminal”, even as rights groups have called for a more thorough investigation into the incident.
The body of Karima Mehtab Baloch, 37, was found by police on Monday after she had been reported missing a day earlier, police said.
“The circumstances have been investigated and officers have determined this to be a non-criminal death and no foul play is suspected,” said Toronto’s police department in a short statement.
Police said Baloch’s family had been informed of the determination.
While the family was not immediately available for comment, Baloch’s husband Hamal Haider had earlier told Al Jazeera Baloch had been facing numerous and specific threats to her life due to her work in the recent past. ....

The Toronto Police released few details about her death. Mike Butt, a detective, told Reuters that her death has been “deemed a non-criminal incident”.
Amnesty International South Asia said Baloch’s death was shocking and should be “effectively investigated”, while the Human Rights Council of Balochistan urged the Canadian government to look into the matter. “She defeated patriarchy and took over a nationalist struggle in midst of ruthless state suppression,” the council tweeted. “She remains a beacon of human rights and human dignity.” ....

A renowned human rights activist and a vocal critic of Pakistani military and the state was recently found dead in Toronto, Canada.  
Karima Baloch, who had sought asylum in Canada in 2015, was reported missing on Sunday. 
On Monday, Toronto Police said her body had been found without providing any additional details regarding the cause or circumstances of her death. 
Her sister told the BBC that her death was a tragedy not just for the family but also for the national movement in Balochistan. 
“She didn’t go abroad because she wanted to, but because . open activism in Pakistan had become impossible,” Mahganj Baloch was quoted as saying. ....
