XENIA Andrew Hunt has joined the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office as chief trial counsel in the criminal division, Prosecuting Attorney David Hayes announced Wednesday.
A lifelong resident of Greene County, Hunt graduated with honors from Wright State University and the University of Dayton School of Law. In 2001, he began his legal career at the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office as an assistant prosecutor and for six years, represented the State of Ohio in juvenile court and then common pleas court. Including child sexual abuse cases and murder cases, Hunt has tried more than 30 jury trials for the state. ....

Judge Bird retiring after 24 years on the bench


In his 24 years as Williams County Juvenile/Probate Court judge, Steven R. Bird has touched thousands of lives amid a significant shift in how the justice system handles juvenile offenders.
Bird is retiring as of the end of the year, ending a long run as judge that he initially didn’t plan on. When former Judge Harry J. Rigdon announced his retirement in 1996, Bird said a number of people suggested that he should run for the office.
He said that idea “took a while took sink in,” especially since he was “just hitting his stride,” as a general practice attorney and partner at the Newcomer and Shaffer law firm in Bryan. ....

Here comes the (first female) judge

XENIA It’s not often a judge gets applause when approaching the courthouse.
But in the case of Cynthia Martin, the cheers from family and friends she received Friday are more than warranted. Shortly after 1 p.m. on the steps of the courthouse, Martin was sworn in as the first female judge elected to the Greene County Common Pleas Court. She will replace Domestic Relations Judge Steven Hurley, who is retiring at the end of the year. ....
