Chris Hofmann brings 28 years of wood products experience to the WCA Board, including running a custom woodshop for which he hired graduates of woodworking programs.
NELLYSFORD, Va. – Chris Hofmann, U.S. Lamello product manager for Colonial Saw of Kingston, MA, has been appointed to the Woodwork Career Alliance of North America’s Board of Directors for a three-year term.
Hofmann has been active in woodworking education both on the national and local stages. He is currently chairman of the Woodworking Machinery Industry Association’s Education Committee and is also a technical advisor for the woodworking and carpentry program at Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston.

RIO GRANDE, OH- With many colleges and universities facing uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic, The University of Rio Grande has taken the lead in providing an affordable pathway to a high-quality education. The Board of Trustees approved a tuition affordability plan on February 13, thus lowering tuition from $26,810 to $19,400 and lowering room and board from $11,166 to $10, 500. In addition to the tuition affordability plan, Rio Grande is investing additional resources in student support services to focus on individual student needs and improve student success and retention.

NEW BOSTON — Three area schools participated in the Ninth Annual University of Rio Grande Student and Teacher Art Exhibition, in the Esther Allen Greer Museum and Gallery from Feb. 4-25.
“The Esther Allen Greer Museum and Gallery is one of the few venues in our area that offers a very fine venue for professional artists and students, alike,” said art instructor and museum director Joseph Hamilton. “The preparations for this annual show start months in advance. We do this in an effort to encourage the arts in young people, and also to bring attention to the beautiful, friendly, and family-like atmosphere of The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College campus in hopes to attract future applicants to the School of Fine Art.”

Seminar discusses human trafficking on social media

RIO GRANDE, Ohio — The University of Rio Grande hosted the second seminar of a three-part series on Human Trafficking in Higher Ed.
The second session, which was presented virtually on Friday was titled “Don’t fall for that request to be a sugar baby” and was about social media, online grooming and recruiting in the digital age.
The series is co-sponsored by Eyes Up Appalachia and Gallia County’s Citizens for Prevention and Recovery (CPR).
The speaker for part two was Rhiannon Gill, a sexual violence victim advocate point person for the Pike County Coalition to End Human Trafficking. Gill is also a survivor of human trafficking.
