James Daniel “Danny” Hendrix, also known by his friends as “Smiley”, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at his mother’s home, surrounded by his family, following a short illness. Born in August 1961, Danny was a native of Unicoi County and resided in Erwin throughout his life. He was the son of James “Jim” and Ima Jean (Ramsey) Hendrix. Danny was preceded in death by his father, in 2010.
In addition to his mother, Danny leaves behind to cherish his memory: Brother: Steve Hendrix and wife, Terri, of Erwin; Sisters: Darlene Sheehan and husband, Dennis Shelton, of Elizabethton, Debee Greene and husband, Tommy, of Erwin; 4 nephews; 1 niece; Several great nieces and nephews. ....

ERWIN - Michael Lee Steffey, age 72, of Erwin, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021. A native of Dante, VA, Michael is a son of the late L.J. and Jewel (Hughes) Steffey. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a Helicopter Crew Chief during the Vietnam War. Michael was a member of Calvary Baptist church and was employed by NN Ball and Roller, from which he retired after 32 years. He loved woodworking, building, carpentry and anything related to Clinchfield Railroad or old trains. He enjoyed cooking and making especially large meals for his work friends or family dinners. More than anything, Michael loved his family and his 3 children. ....

ERWIN - Teddy Lee Barnett, age 67, of Erwin, departed this world on Sunday, April 4, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Egypt, NC, was born on May 24, 1953, to the late Ted and Pearlee Barnett. He was a Boiler Maker for part of his life and worked for CSX Transportation as a Carman for around 30 years. He was a proud United States veteran, having served 30 years in the Tennessee Army National Guard. Teddy was deployed and served in Iraq for 18 months. He was married to Tammy Barnett for 41 years. Ted was a Godly man who attended Chestoa Baptist Church. He was a veteran, a patriot and a true man of God. He loved his family, his country and his God with all of his heart. Ted loved being with his family, going to church, hunting and fishing, among many other things. He was a true American. Ted will be truly missed, but he has finally made it ho ....

ERWIN - Barbara Faye Masters, age 83, of Erwin, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at her daughter’s home, where she resided through her illness. A native of Erwin, Barbara is a daughter of the late Lenville and Joanna (Murphy) Edwards. She was a member of Unaka Springs Freewill Baptist Church. She loved church functions, gardening and flowers. In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her husband: Phillip Dale Masters; brothers: Jerry Edwards, Billy Gene Edwards, Arnie Edwards and Lincoln Edwards; and sisters: Helen Shealy and Gladys Orren.
