Health departments find ways to roll out vaccines in rural counties

Smaller rural county health departments juggle many daily duties, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
The Valley County Health Department s six staff members have a lot on their plate. They continue to conduct contact tracing, testing, and other daily duties, like monitoring other communicable diseases. Now, add to that coordinating vaccination clinics.
Cases in Valley County are rising again, increasing from 20 activeÂ COVID-19 casesÂ on Jan. 25 to 58 on Feb. 5, according to the county health department sÂ websiteÂ andÂ Facebook page. The county has also reported 10 COVID deaths.

A Havre regular in the Fort Peck Summer Theatre is reprising a role for a Valentine s Day fundraiser to benefit another regular in the theater troupe.
Pam Veis and Fort Peck Summer Theatre Artistic Director Andy Meyers will perform A.R. Gurney s comedy Love Letters.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to go directly to Chayten Pippin and family, a press release said. ....

GLASGOW, Mont. - If you live in the Glasgow area, the Valley County Health Department (VCHD) received its first 100 shots this week. VCHD said they re optimistic that they ll start receiving 100 doses every week for the foreseeable future. Right now, they ve booked 50 appointments for next week and said they re going to wait until Monday to book 50 more because they want to make sure they re getting additional doses.

There s currently a waitlist and they re booking through April on a lottery system. If you live in Toole County, they re continuing vaccination efforts and are not scheduling appointments for people who are the age of 70, American Indians and people of color.
