NEIGHBORHOOD POLITICS-As I write this, Neighborhood Councils that have elections planned in 2021 for their communities, have already begun elections for their Board members.
This is one of the issues that I have with the Neighborhood Council system: I believe all Neighborhood Councils should be required to run their Elections through the designated City Governmental body – in the case of this year, through the Office of the City Clerk.
Neighborhood Councilmembers are considered Elected Officials within the City of Los Angeles government. Therefore, it makes sense they should be kept distant from the election process just as you would expect our Mayor, our City Attorney, our Controller, and our City Councilmembers to be distanced from their election process. ....

Gov. Gavin Newsom has chosen Secretary of State Alex Padilla to replace Kamala Harris in the U.S. Senate. Padilla, who hails from Pacoima, will be California’s first Latino senator.
In a statement released to social media, Padilla said his first job as a U.S. senator will be to help lead California back from the throes of the coronavirus pandemic and resulting economic slump.
“I’m going to the Senate to protect health care, make sure every Californian has access to a vaccine, to get our economy back on track and our people back to work. I know we are going to lead a California comeback that doesn’t leave working families behind,” he added. ....

Chambers of Commerce Send Letter to State Officials | San Fernando Valley Business Journal

A coalition of chambers of commerce – including many in the Valley region – plan to send a letter to state elected officials Thursday voicing their concerns about the latest stay-at-home orders.
Nancy Hoffman Vanyek, chief executive of the Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce and one of the organizers behind the letter, said the most recent restrictions pose an existential threat to many small restaurants, retailers and offices.
“These businesses cannot afford to survive right now,” she told the Business Journal. “Of course, it started with restaurants, but this is a regional problem now.”
The letter argues that the restrictions favor large businesses over small ones because large corporations have the finances and e-commerce capabilities to operate profitably under the rules.
