During the board meeting Jan. 18, administrators gave a report to trustees on projects for the bond. District leaders are still finalizing cost estimates with contractors and will have those available during the Feb. 8 board meeting, which is also when trustees could approve putting the bond on the ballot. ....

Officials gathered at Indian Creek Middle School on Thursday where Dan Bove and Kim Mark were elected and sworn in as president and vice president, respectively, during a special organization meeting. The regular session followed and leaders took time to recognize school and board members who made achievements over the past year. ....
From staff reports BLOOMINGDALE The Jefferson County Joint Vocational School Board of Education started anew with a blend of new and returning faces at its first meeting of the year. The board reorganized in a special session on Tuesday and returned Larry George and Steve Bezak III as president and vice president, respectively, while Ruth Ann Bruzzese and William Hendricks were re-appointed and Ron Smyth replaced longtime member John Prokopakis. Prokopakis, who was not in attendance, was later recognized with a resolution of appreciation by the board for seven years of dedication to the school and its students. Talks turned to COVID-related matters and the board conducted a brief executive session before approving a resolution to extend Family First Coronavirus Response Act benefits to employees to March 31. ....

khowell@salemnews.net LEETONIA The Leetonia school district is now offering a before and after school care program for elementary students. Schools Superintendent Dennis Dunham this week told the school board the program is a free service offered for students in grades kindergarten through six for parents who need assistance before and/or after school hours. The program is available 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 6 p.m. weekdays. Dunham noted the current only requires a coordinator, but an aide will be available if numbers increase. The board then approved Mike Frenger as program coordinator for the remainder of the school year, effective Jan. 14 at $25 per hour and Rick Davis as aide. ....
