Students and staff at Galvan Elementary took time to show their appreciation for cafeteria workers. We checked with the students and staff at Galvan Elementary where the kids took time to show their appreciation for the cafeteria workers. they wrote thank you notes with drawings of those who are the unsung heroes of the school system. Those we spoke with said they really appreciated the thoughtfulness. I really feel very, very good about it with all of the kids, staff member Lisa Rosalas said. They showed that they really care for us. ....
WFISD cafeteria workers honored for School Lunch Hero Day Share on Facebook Share on LinkedIn WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - Throughout the cafeteria line at McNiel Middle School, you can hear Crystal Brock’s catchphrase ring out as she gives a “thank you, baby,” to each student coming through. “Sometimes the kids come in and they just can’t wait to tell you how their day has gone,” she said. While it may have been School Lunch Hero Day across the Wichita Falls ISD, for Brock it was a typical day doing what she and her family have loved doing for generations. ....
Today (May 7) is School Lunch Hero Day. Director of Child and Adult Nutrition Services for the South Dakota Department of Education Cheriee Watterson says it’s a day to celebrate the hard work and dedication of school nutrition professionals. She says throughout the pandemic, it was almost like adding another meal service program in order to manage meals for students in school buildings and for those learning remotely. School nutrition employees balance many roles and follow federal, state and local regulations to ensure safe and healthy meals are available in schools. Federal nutrition standards ensure that school cafeterias offer students low-fat or fat-free milk, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein. School meals also meet limits on calories, sodium and unhealthy fats. ....
Crystal Brock is one of about 115 frontline workers at Wichita Falls ISD who have kept kids going with over 2 million meals during the pandemic. WFISD and Chartwells K12 are observing National School Lunch Hero Day on Friday to honor Brock and the other essential cooks, chefs, dietitians and food service workers in the district. They do more than fill students bellies to fuel their studies a crucial role in itself. These lunch heroes also feed kids souls. It’s nice to see them smile and feel like they’re wanted when they come through our door to get a plate, Brock, child nutrition manager at McNiel Middle School, said Friday. ....

Other topics will include understanding how the pandemic is affecting peopleâs mental health and screening for suicide while maintaining social distance. ....
