It was both hot and humid, and a bank of darkly threatening clouds was moving in from the southwest. Severe thunderstorm warnings had been announced earlier in the day but, despite these ominous signs, the performers, their four-piece band and the Festival support crew launched, without hesitation, into what was truly a celebration of Black musical theatre, as well as a celebration of the Stratford Festival’s triumphant return.
