June shipping down at Green Bay port

Jul 8, 2021 | 6:46 PM
June shipping through the Port of Green Bay finishes at just over 149,000 tons. That’s bellow the 281,000 tons of material was transported through the port in May. Brown County Port and Solid Waste Director Dean Haen  says decreases in salt shipments are to blame. The demand for building products, however, have increase shipments of certain commodities.
“Everybody’s doing home improvement projects, ” Haen said. “The use of cement it up.  Limestone being made into byproducts and manufactured goods.  The paper industry is strong.  So, we’ve been fortunate not to be significantly impacted by the pandemic.”
Haen says he believes the Port of Green Bay will still be meeting its 2021 shipping project of two-million tons. ....

Wisconsin Builds Two New Landfills as Part of Tri-County Agreement

Brown County Port and Resource Recovery
Sixteen years ago, three Wisconsin counties pooled their resources, using each of their three public landfills in sequence; as one filled, they began sending to another of the three sites. Through this collaborative agreement Brown, Outagamie, and Winnebago Counties saved $48 million in about 13 years. But by now the communities’ demands have outpaced what this partnership can provide, so they amended the agreement, with plans to build two new, shared landfills, both that will accept residential, commercial, and industrial waste.
Brown County’s new South landfill is under construction, slated to launch in 2022. Construction of Outagamie’s new Northwest landfill begins in 2022, and the site is set to launch in 2023.  This newest Tri-County agreement will take the counties to 2046, as determined by dividing landfill capacity by annual tonnage estimates. ....

OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) You might not think much of it… that is, your trash, or where it ends up.
If you live in Brown, Outagamie or Winnebago Counties, chances are your trash ends up in the Outagamie County landfill.
In 2003, the three counties partnered to coordinate waste disposal and recycling. Leaders say the agreement has saved taxpayers more than $48 million and has lowered tipping fees, which is a charge to anyone who disposes of waste in a landfill.
“We have some of the lowest tipping fees in the country. Why is that important? Well, you’re paying taxes. You’re having to pay less taxes to take care of your garbage and recyclables than you would elsewhere,” Dean Haen, Brown County Port and Resource Recovery director, said. ....
