Creepy, Venomous Spiders Close U of M Building
If you suffer from arachnophobia this could be a waking nightmare for you.
The venomous Mediterranean recluse spiders were found in the basement of A University of Michigan Library, the Shapiro Undergraduate Library.  The spiders were discovered in late January during a routine building check.  The Library was closed down during treatment for the spiders.
An expert on spiders identified those found to be of the Mediterranean variety, not brown recluses.  It is assumed that the spiders found their into the basement of the building through the tunnels that run under the U of M campus.  These spiders prefer the dark and quiet spaces like tunnels and basements especially where there is very minimal foot traffic. ....

The University of Michigan s campus library recently closed its doors not because of the coronavirus pandemic, but because of the threat of venomous spiders. 
University officials recently discovered Mediterranean recluse spiders in the basements and remote areas of several buildings on its Ann Arbor campus. Cousins to the more well-known brown recluse, they were found during routine building checks. 
Pest Management is treating the areas in the building where the spiders were found, university spokesperson Kim Broekhuizen told CBS News on Wednesday. 
The spiders were found in the basement area of Shapiro Library, not in any public spaces. The library closed for two days as a result.  ....

ANN ARBOR – University of Michigan’s Shapiro Undergraduate Library reopened on Tuesday morning after a two-day closure due to reports that venomous spiders were on the loose.
As it turns out, three Mediterranean recluse spiders were discovered in the library’s basement in late January but were never seen in the building’s public spaces after the school’s pest management team treated the area. ....

Norman V. Horner is a retired educator who doesn’t really care whether folks call him “Dr.” or not. His distinguished career plus his 40 articles in professional journals and his leadership in scholarly organizations suggest that he’s been worthy of his degree for a long time.
A Brown County native, Horner earned A.A., B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, respectively, from Tarleton State (then Junior) College, two from the former University of North Texas and his doctorate from Oklahoma State University.
Most of us would need help to pronounce much less understand all the multi-syllabic words employed by this distinguished educator. He rose from the role of instructor to Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics during his tenure at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls (1971-2006).
