Rehoboth Beach Delaware 19971United States Strong winds ripped through the Cape Region recently, and while no significant damage was reported, the winds did claim at least one victim – a sailboat named Mistress off Old Landing Road that had been a local landmark since the mid-1980s. “It must have been one hell of a gust,” said owner Mike Collins, during an interview May 4. “The lead keel weighs six-and-a-half tons. The neighbors said they felt it shake the ground when it fell over.” Collins said the boat was built for a Scottish lord and launched in 1935. He and his wife, Ann Jane, who died in 2010, purchased it in 1980. With stops in Spain, Portugal, the Canary Islands, Venezuela, Trinidad and Grenada, the couple sailed across the Atlantic Ocean. Collins said he and his wife sailed 7,000 miles; the longest single stretch of sailing was across the Atlantic, which was 2,600 miles over 26 days. ....
No serious injuries reported after pickup truck slams into ambulance in Rehoboth Beach Published article REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Delaware State Police said no one was seriously injured when a pickup truck slammed into the front of an ambulance with a patient onboard Saturday morning near Rehoboth Beach. Troopers were called to the intersection of Old Landing Road and Coastal Highway around 10 a.m. for reports of a crash involving an ambulance from the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department. Crash investigators said a Ford F-150 driven by a 62-year-old man was crossing the intersection on the southbound side of Coastal Highway with a green light when an ambulance with active emergency lights tried to turn left onto the highway from Old Landing Road. ....

Three newly hired Millsboro Police officers were greeted with applause when they were introduced at the Millsboro Town Council meeting this week. The council approved increasing the police force above the current complement until retirements are complete and also approved sending the officers to the police academy for training, beginning on Monday, April 12. The officers are Travis Shockley of Seaford and Bryan Jones and Cole Revel of Millsboro. Jones and Revel are both former students of Mayor Michelle Truitt, who is Millsboro Middle School teacher. Police Chief Brian Calloway said two of the officers will replace Sgt. Barry Wheatley, who will retire in October and pursue a career in public safety, and another officer who plans to retire but hasnât officially announced it yet. ....
