Maine Has a New Mobile COVID Vaccination Clinic for Rural Areas
Governor Janet Mills has announced a partnership with FEMA that will provide COVID vaccines for people in rural areas.
For some Mainers, especially elderly residents of rural communities, getting to a location where they can get a COVID-19 vaccination could prove very challenging. And if they receive a Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, that would mean making the trip to a health facility or mass vaccination clinic twice. That s a lot of traveling for people who may no longer drive, or who would find the journey too taxing.
So the Mills Administration has announced a mobile vaccination unit that will bring the shots to them. Over the next two months, the vaccination clinic will travel to 10 communities, including Oxford, Fryeburg, Calais, Madawaska, and others:

Maine to host New England s second mobile vaccination unit capable of delivering at least 250 shots per day
The Mills Administration and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today a partnership to launch a groundbreaking mobile vaccination unit that will provide COVID-19 vaccinations to people in rural and under-served communities across Maine.
The mobile vaccination unit (MVU), which is only the second of its kind in New England, will begin providing COVID-19 vaccines to Maine people starting next Monday, April 12, 2021, at the Oxford Casino in Oxford. The MVU will then travel to ten additional rural or under-served communities across Maine - including Fryebu
During Tuesday s Maine CDC briefing, Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner Jeanne Lambrew announced a partnership with FEMA to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine to rural and under-served communities in Maine. A mobile vaccination unit (MVU) will travel across the state, each with the capability of distributing 250 shots per day.
The first stop will be April 12 to April 16 at Oxford Casino. To check appointment availability for the MVU at Oxford Casino, Oxford County residents can call 1-888-445-4111. Appointment scheduling for other MVU stops will be available in the coming days at maine.gov/covid19/vaccines.
