Burnham-On-Sea’s chances of achieving success in the prestigious Britain In Bloom competition have been given a boost this week.
Burnham In Bloom’s Dave Perrett and Jo Brown gave regional judge Richard Beale a guided tour of the town on Wednesday (July 27th).
They said he was impressed by Burnham’s tidiness and floral displays, with hopes high of success.
“We hope that we’ve done well – it was a good visit and our hopes of Burnham winning an award this year are very much alive,” said Dave.
“The judge started off at the fountain next to May’s Cafe, then went to the Sailing Club along the seafront, visiting Marine Cove, the Manor Gardens, Kathleen Chambers, Pembroke Close, Home Farm, Burnham Infants School, G&H Tyres, the High Street and Sunny Lawns plus the replica railway signal box in Old Station Approach.” ....

Burnham-On-Sea railway signal box set to open to visitors tomorrow
Burnham-On-Sea Railway Heritage Group is opening the town’s replica railway signal box for visitors tomorrow (Tuesday, July 27th).
The building – which is located near to the site of the original signal box in the town’s Old Station Approach – will be open from 10am until mid afternoon.
The railway signal box was funded by fundraising and a National Lottery grant and it was launched in September 2018 alongside several other rail-themed items nearby.
In recent years, other railway items installed in Burnham include a set of railway buffers, a station name board, a signal, an information board, and a rail-themed weather vane. ....

NHS flags were raised in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge and a new sand art design was unveiled on Brean beach to thank key workers on NHS Social Care and Frontline Workers Day on Monday (July 5th).
A huge sand art design was unveiled on Brean Beach by sand artist Simon Beck to honour key workers, pictured above. It stated in the middle: ‘Thank you to all front line workers.’
Burnham and Highbridge Town Council joined in with the day by raising NHS flags at the towns’ flag poles next to Old Station Approach and in Highbridge’s Market Street. ....

Armed Forces Day ceremony to be held in Burnham-On-Sea today
Armed Forces Day will be marked in Burnham-On-Sea today (Saturday, June 26th) with an upbeat ceremony to celebrate the local Armed Forces community.
Organised by Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Town Council, the event will start at 11.30am next to the fountain in Old Station Approach when several members of the Town Band will be playing upbeat tunes.
Then, at mid-day, Mayor Cllr Mike Facey and his deputies will mark Armed Forces Day with a poem reading and by raising the flag.
“This year’s event will be an upbeat show of support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community,” says the Mayor. ....
