Cox outage disrupts internet, TV service for metro Phoenix residents

A technology snafu, possibly caused by a utility fire, resulted in service outages for many Phoenix-area residents Sunday and early Monday, disrupting internet coverage for some and television viewing of the Phoenix Suns basketball playoff game for others.
Andrea Katsenes, a spokeswoman for Cox Communications in Phoenix, said she didn’t have information regarding the geographic extent of the outage or the number of affected customers but said service was restored by late Monday morning.
"Due to a fire on a (Salt River Project) pole yesterday, Sunday, our services were impacted and our teams could not get to (the) repair right away until safety allowed," she said in an email to the Republic.

Much of Arizona saw gusty winds and warm temperatures on Wednesday, leading officials to warn of dust, low visibility for driving, and ideal wildfire conditions.
The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for much of Arizona on Wednesday as gusty winds, low humidity and high temperatures presented possible fire conditions.
A dust advisory was issued after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday as parts of Maricopa and Pinal counties saw gusts of wind over 40 mph, causing visibility as low as 1 mile in some places. The dust advisory expired at 6:30 p.m., according to the weather service.
