Dickson Co. Schools end bus mask mandate, indoors still required View Comments Students are no longer required to wear masks on Dickson County Schools buses following a county school board vote Thursday. The board made the decision at a special meeting called after Gov. Bill Lee’s recent announcement the state would reduce COVID-19 mandates and move toward reopening. Students can still wear masks on the bus if they choose. The board voted to keep the current school district guidelines for inside school facilities, which require students to wear masks if they are not at least three feet apart. “I would like to see us leave the indoor policy we have remain in place for the remainder of the school year,” said board member Patricia Hudson. “It has proven to be helpful.”
WORCESTER - Douglas Taylor drives a truck for the U.S. Postal Service in Shrewsbury. He heard about a walk-in equity COVID-19 vaccine clinic this weekend at work and made sure - really made sure - not to miss it. He set up a chair at 3 a.m. outside the YMCA on Main Street, but he wasn't alone. Someone had been there since 2:30, and others continued to line up around the parking lot before the sun came up on a beautiful spring day. "I wanted to get my shot," Taylor said while holding up his freshly stamped vaccination card. "I wanted to get relief."
The Dickson County School Board is focused on getting neutral data about growth areas and facilities’ student populations in Dickson County before proceeding with long-range planning. The board asked school administrators at a special planning session Thursday to move toward gathering more information before committing to a facility plan. Schools Director Dr. Danny Weeks repeated that education leaders should have a plan ready if County Mayor Bob Rial and the county commission approve approximately $30 million in funding the mayor has said might be available in the next few years for school capital projects. Weeks again asked the board to provide direction “in terms of administration, in terms of looking at facilities, looking at land, looking at properties."
