SUNY Potsdam COVID vaccination site looking to fill appointment slots

POTSDAM — The state-run COVID-19 vaccination clinic at SUNY Potsdam’s Maxcy Hall is seeing a decline in appointment registrations, and is now fulfilling same-day appointments.
During a public SUNY Potsdam College Council meeting Friday morning, council member and Waddington Town Supervisor Alex V. Hammond said site volunteers will be posting roadside signs encouraging motorists to stop in to register and get vaccinated.
“We have a lot of vaccine and appointments that are not being filled on a daily basis,” he said. “Nothing’s being thrown away, nothing’s being wasted, but we have a number of appointments we do on a daily basis and we aren’t reaching that goal currently.” ....

SUNY Potsdam Title IX Task Force reviewing how sexual misconduct cases are handled

POTSDAM — In the 10 days since SUNY Potsdam students popped a bubble surrounding campus sexual violence and harassment, a Title IX Task Force has begun its work.
Headed by Interim Chief Diversity Officer Claudia J. Ford, also an environmental studies professor, the Task Force met once all together last week, and four subcommittees met this week. Ms. Ford briefed the SUNY Potsdam College Council on the Task Force’s emerging work Friday morning during the final council meeting of the academic year.
The group of faculty and administrators is charged with reviewing the processes — particularly associated with Title IX — policies, resources and training related to sexual violence, harassment and stalking. Subcommittees are focusing on student support, investigations, networking and training. The full Task Force is planning to meet again April 23, then clarify how students can become directly involved with the group. ....

POTSDAM The New York State vaccination site based in SUNY Potsdam s Maxcy Hall Fieldhouse is now approaching 45,000 shots administered, in the ongoing fight against COVID-19, said a press release from the college.
As the eligibility criteria continue to expand, more and more New Yorkers are able to be protected against the virus by receiving their free immunization at the clinic.
I can t help but reflect on the significance of hosting such an important function to support our community in a time of need. Since our founding in 1816, SUNY Potsdam has had many such moments, from weathering the 1918 influenza epidemic together, to sheltering families in this same facility during the 1998 ice storm. The bottom line is, we are in this together, as one community. While we may just be a building or a location to some, we feel proud to be a small part of history in helping to turn the tide on this virus and a part of th ....
