Border Bishops Call for ‘Safe, Orderly, and Humane Immigration’
U.S. and Mexican bishops living along the border issued a joint statement this week calling for “humanitarian solutions” to immigration.
“As U.S. and Mexican bishops along the border, we witness daily the dilemma that our migrant sisters and brothers face,” the statement reads.
“For most, the decision to migrate is not motivated by an indifference toward their homeland or the pursuit of economic prosperity; it is a matter of life or death.”
While recognizing the right of nations to control their borders, the bishops call on countries to welcome migrants in accordance with their “intrinsic dignity” and to pay special care to the treatment of children. ....

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday called upon the major economies to pursue a holistic approach towards climate change and galvanise supportive finance for Pakistan and other vulnerable countries braving the climate challenge.
“We expect this to be a moment for the world’s major economies to come forward and galvanise supportive finance for responsible countries like Pakistan, that are doing their best to reduce emissions,” the Prime Minister wrote in an article published in The Times.
Khan mentioned that the Global Climate Risk index ranked Pakistan as the eighth most vulnerable country to climate impacts with frequency and intensity of climate disasters constantly rising over the decades. Since 2000, Pakistan has lost 9,989 lives, suffered economic losses worth $3.8 billion and witnessed 152 extreme weather events all triggered by climate ch ....

Last week the Government confirmed that the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine will be rolled out to the patients and staff of aged residential care facilities from the end of March.
These are facilities both inside retirement villages and in the wider community that look after older people who are no longer able to live independently, providing rest home, hospital or dementia level care.
Residents of these facilities will naturally get the vaccine in-house. Everyone receiving the vaccine must give consent and NZ Aged Care Association chief executive Simon Wallace says this is challenging when it comes to dementia patients – something that is also an issue for flu vaccines – and is currently being worked through. ....
