Murder Latest: Miguel Louw killer sentenced to 34 years in jail
Mohamed Vahed, 43, who was found guilty of the kidnapping and murder of Miguel Louw was sentenced in the Durban High Court on Wednesday.
Phoenix man, Mohamed Ebrahim Vahed, 43, was sentenced to 34 years and six months imprisonment in the Durban High Court on Wednesday.
This is after he was convicted for the murder and kidnapping of nine-year-old, Miguel Louw, in July 2018.
National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman, Natasha Kara, said Vahed had also been found guilty of theft and was sentenced to 25 years, eight years and 18 months for the three offences.
Vahed had occasionally stayed with Miguel and his family in Sydenham because he sometimes did odd jobs for them. Sometime prior to the boy’s disappearance, Vahed had told Miguel’s mother, Raylene that he was attracted to her. She turned down his advances, and he became angry and warned that he would “show her”. ....

Austin man sentenced for possessing thousands of images of child porn

AUSTIN, Texas - An Austin man has been sentenced to almost 13 years in federal prison for possessing thousands of images of child pornography.
47-year-old Fernando Solis has been sentenced to 151 months in federal prison and will also have to pay $36,000 in restitution to a dozen known child victims. He will also be placed on supervised release for 10 years after completing his prison term, says the US Attorney s Office.
Solis pled guilty in August 2020 to one count of possession of child pornography. The US Attorney s Office says Solis admitted that from 2013 to 2018, he visited internet sites and used various chat applications to obtain child pornography, including live sex shows involving underage minors in the Philippines. ....

ALBANY The former head of MyPayrollHR, who has already admitted to committing a years-long fraud that caused more than $100 million in losses to banks, financing companies and businesses, has had his sentencing in federal court delayed until August, with the hope that in-person court will be possible by then.
Michael Mann, 50, who formerly lived in the Saratoga County town of Edinburg, was scheduled to be sentenced March 21, but Senior U.S. District Court Judge Lawrence E. Kahn last week granted a prosecution request to postpone sentencing. The sentencing will now take place Aug. 4 in U.S. District Court in Albany. ....

Man (73) is jailed for abuse of three young boys

A Summerhill College teacher, a Sea Scouts leader and a person who was described as trusted in the community was sentenced to one year and 9 months in prison for sexually assaulting three teenage boys in the late 70s and 1980s at Sligo Circuit Court yesterday (Monday, February 1st).
Edward Tighe (73) of Salmon Court, Ballisodare pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault in 1978, 1982 and 1986, during the time he was an English and Latin teacher in Summerhill.
The case, heard by Judge Francis Comerford, was told that one of the victims, Patrick Walsh, wanted to waive his right to anonymity. All three men had harrowing Victim Impact Statements read out in court which detailed the serious consequences the abuse they suffered had on them, their families and their relationships in the decades that followed. ....
