Story Behind Revocation of Chinese State-Run Media CGTN’s License in UK: Interview With Peter Dahlin
The Chinese regime’s mouthpiece China Global Television Network (CGTN) lost its broadcasting license in the UK early this year, although the Beijing authorities put on a big effort to maintain its voice in Europe. Peter Dahlin, the person behind the effort, spoke about the process with The Epoch Times’ affiliate NTD in an April 9 interview.
“CGTN is directly controlled by the Chinese Communist Party [CCP],” said Dahlin. “There are two amendments or proposals here, one deals specifically with these forced televised confessions and the broadcasting of human rights violation, and the other deals more with general propaganda from state-owned TV channels.” ....

Changes Proposed to Canada’s Broadcasting Act Could Take Chinese State TV Networks Off Air
The federal Conservatives are proposing changes to the Broadcasting Act that, if approved by Parliament, may see a possible removal of two Chinese state-owned broadcasters from Canada’s airwaves.
The proposed changes target any foreign media that is “subject to direction or controlled by a non-democratic foreign state, by a foreign state that is committing genocide or crimes against humanity, or that transmits, produces, or participates in the production of forced confessions.”
Conservatives Garnett Genuis, a human rights critic, and Alain Rayes, the party’s heritage critic, said their proposed revisions seek to bar authoritarian or genocidal states from pushing their propaganda to Canadians through the airwaves. ....

Eutelsat, the European Television Satellite Organization, is under attack for facilitating broadcasts for China s state tv CGTN. Earlier on, CGTN was banned from broadcasting into the UK. The station is accused of broadcasting televised confessions of people China says are criminals. AFP/Archivos
