Editor’s note: “We are The 908th” is a 16 part series, running biweekly, detailing the workings of the various units in the 908th Airlift Wing. This is part three, giving insight on the 357th Airlift Squadron.
The 357th Airlift Squadron is the 908th Airlift Wing’s actual flying unit. The squadron is under the command umbrella of the 908th Operations Group.
As mentioned in previous “We are The 908th” parts, the squadron has the only flying mission stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base and currently operates a fleet of nine C-130H2 Hercules cargo aircraft. Known as the workhorse of the Air Force, this plane can carry 42,000 pounds of cargo and can fly up to 386 mph with a range of 5,200 miles. ....

PUNE: Careful tracking of blood creatinine levels in patients battling post-Covid mucormycosis can ease the pain of daily medication costs from Rs 35,000 to Rs 350, treating surgeons have found.
While the liposomal form of amphotericin injections a key drug against the infection is prohibitively priced, the conventional form of the same drug costs 100 times less but needs to be administered carefully, with a blood test every alternate day to rule out drug toxicity in the kidneys.
If creatinine levels are raised, the 21-day course of the drug can be finished with two to three “pit stops” also called “amphotericin holidays” to allow the body to normalise. Creatinine is a waste product that’s channeled out of the system via the kidneys. ....

Boeing and Alaska Airlines said they are partnering on the latest Boeing ecoDemonstrator program and will flight test about 20 technologies on a new 737-9 to enhance the safety and sustainability of air travel.
In flights beginning this summer, Boeing and Alaska will test a new halon-free fire-extinguishing agent that significantly reduces effects on the ozone layer, evaluate an engine nacelle designed to reduce noise and assess cabin sidewalls made from recycled material, among other projects.
