Two Rivers' new school superintendent is Diane Johnson from Birchwood

TWO RIVERS - Diane Johnson, current Birchwood School District superintendent, has been hired as the new superintendent of the Two Rivers Public School District. She will begin in her new role on July 1.
The district said in a news release Wednesday that Johnson and Quistorf will work together to ensure a smooth transition.
Johnson currently oversees PK-12 traditional, PK-6 Montessori, 7-12 project-based and K-12 online options in Birchwood, a village in Washburn County in northwest Wisconsin. She also worked with a team to pass a five-year, $5.8 million referendum in April 2020, taught graduate classes on the school campus and has been a member of many community groups. ....

Duluth woman aims to complete winter thru-hike of 1,200-mile Ice Age Trail

Completing a thru-hike of the 1,200-mile Ice Age Trail is challenging in any season.
But Duluth’s Emily Ford is adding an extra degree of difficulty: winter.
Ford set out from the trail’s eastern terminus at Potawatomi State Park in Sturgeon Bay on Dec. 28 with the hope of finishing at the western terminus in St. Croix Falls in March.
If she completes her hike, she’ll become just the second person and the first woman to complete a winter thru-hike of the trail. ....

The pandemic sent people flocking to Wisconsin state parks in 2020. Leaders expect them to keep coming back.

After Jenna Byom was furloughed from her job in the spring, she set her sights on a goal she started last year: visiting every one of Wisconsin’s 49 state parks.
Byom, who lives in Madison, had originally set the goal after some “hard personal setbacks,” including losing a job, a breakup, and moving to a new city.
“I needed a healthy way to ease my anxiety and depression, so I set a goal in addition to actual therapy,” she wrote in a Facebook post. ....
