The Westbrook Planning Board on Tuesday approved an expansion to the Vertical Harvest project and reviewed plans for two solar arrays to provide municipal power.
Vertical Harvest, a parking garage, farm and housing hybrid project planned at Mechanic and Main streets downtown, got the OK to add 7,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, along with 10 more apartments above.
Developers said they hope the retail space would be rented to a specialty grocery store that would also offer take-out and on-site dining. ....

Gilpatrick Solar Project receives final approval
ELLSWORTH A fourth solar farm has been given the green light in Ellsworth after the Planning Board gave final and unanimous approval to the Gilpatrick Solar Project on Feb. 2.
The 3.5-megawatt, 19.81-acre ground-mounted solar array will be sited on a 127-acre parcel and connect to three-phase power utility lines on Gilpatrick Road, which is off Bangor Road and located in the rural and urban zones.
Access roads will be built to the array site, which will be hidden from view from Bangor Road and nearby neighborhoods, according to Dale Knapp and Chris Byers, of Boyle Associates, who represented the application for Aypa Power. Aypa Power is a subsidiary of Blackstone Energy and headquartered in New York City. ....

ELLSWORTH Plans to subdivide a former medical clinic located at 8 Union St. and a separate project to construct a 19.81-acre, ground-mounted solar array on Gilpatrick Road will be seeking final application approval from the Planning Board on Feb. 3. Both applications were deemed complete by the board in January.
At that meeting, the board raised no major issues with the Gilpatrick Solar Project, as presented by Chris Byers and Dale Knapp of consulting firm Boyle Associates. The project was waiting for review by the Maine Historical Preservation Council, and a Department of Environmental Protection application for a stormwater runoff permit had been accepted by the DEP as complete. Aypa Power, a subsidiary of conglomerate Blackstone Energy Partners, is behind the project. ....

A solar farm to be built on 18.2 acres of leased land off West Main Street in Dover-Foxcroft is expected to be completed by this fall.

A solar farm to be built on 18.2 acres of leased land off West Main Street in Dover-Foxcroft is expected to be completed by this fall.
The project received the unanimous support of the town’s planning board earlier this month, and Chris Byers of Boyle Associates in Portland, an environmental consulting firm representing developer Aypa Power, said construction likely would begin in May or June and take approximately four months. ....
