Govt prepares 13-point agenda for electoral, law reforms: Awan


ISLAMABAD: The government has prepared a 13-point agenda for constitutional amendments for electoral and law reforms.
“The government has completed its homework and prepared a 13-point agenda for the proposed electoral reforms for the next general elections,” said Advisor to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan in an Interview with The News and Jang on Saturday. He said after the comprehensive and much-needed electoral reforms, no one will be able to cast doubts on the transparency of elections in the country. The Election Commission of Pakistan would be strengthened with giving more financial autonomy so that it could formulate its own budget. The financial autonomy will be given to the Election Commission of Pakistan similar to higher judiciary. ....

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry Friday said the way the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) held the system hostage in Karachi s one constituency had necessitated electoral reforms even more acute than before.
In a tweet, the minister said, “I ask the opposition to consider the suggestions of Prime Minister Imran Khan”. He pointed out that the low turnout in NA-249 by-election had indicated that the people were losing faith in the electoral process.
Earlier on Tuesday, April 27, Fawad had urged the opposition to submit their suggestions for electoral reforms to hold the next general elections through electronic voting system and granting the right of vote to nine million overseas Pakistanis. ....

Alvi wants expedited process of developing EVMs

Islamabad : President Dr. Arif Alvi on Thursday asked the Ministry of Science and Technology and other concerned organisations to expedite the process of developing Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with advanced security features to ensure transparency in the electoral process.
He underscored the need for introducing e-voting system in the country which, he said, would not only facilitate overseas Pakistanis but would also improve the efficiency and various other aspects of the electoral process. The president made these remarks while chairing a meeting of sub-committee on Emerging Technologies on e-voting, here at Aiwan-e-Sadr. ....
