(AP) A southwest Louisiana sheriff’s deputy has been arrested and a second deputy has been fired after brutality complaints. Josh Benefield, was arrested for three counts of simple battery on Thursday and booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail. He was later released on bail, and it’s unclear whether he has a lawyer representing him. Josh Benefield, formerly of the Beauregard Parish Sheriff s Office, has been charged with three counts of simple battery after a misconduct complaint was made against him and another unnamed deputy on April 5, 2021. According to a statement, the received complaint was regarding an unjustified use of force against two deputies who were assigned to the Beauregard Parish Jail. An investigation by the Detective Division revealed that one inmate was sprayed with a chemical agent, and a second inmate was tased on two occasions without cause. ....
