Several persons, including two candidates for the District Development Council (DDC) elections and two policemen, were injured in clashes during the final phase polling in theÂ Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, prompting authorities to order re-poll at four polling stations, officials said.

SRINAGAR, Dec 19: Congress’s District Development Council (DDC) candidate and her two personal security officers (PSO) were injured due to stone pelting in Poonch today.
According to local news gathering agency GNS, the PSOs of the candidate Parveen Sarwar Khan fired three rounds in air after the attack near Sakimadan area this afternoon.
They said that besides Parveen, her two PSOs –Mazhar Hussein Shah and Aghraz Ahmed Khan suffered injuries and were admitted to SDH Mendhar. BMO Mendhar Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan confirmed to GNS that she along with two PSOs have been admitted to the hospital and are being treated. ....

The clashes between supporters of rival candidates occurred at different places in Mendhar during voting, resulting in injuries to several persons, including two candidates and two policemen, the officials said. The re-polling will take place on December 21.

JAMMU, Dec 19: Large scale violence, confined to Poonch district, broke out in the eighth and final phase of the District Development Council (DDC) elections held on 15 seats of Jammu region today in which more than two dozen persons including two candidates, one of them a woman, were injured prompting police to register six First Information Reports (FIRs) at Mendhar police station in which some contestants are also likely to be booked, even as the voting percentage touched all time high at 72.7 in all the phases. ....

JAMMU, Dec 16: Voting percentage in seventh phase of the District Development Council (DDC) elections held for 18 seats spread over 10 districts of the Jammu region today broke all records by recording 71.9 percent voting, the highest for any phase so far in the ongoing electoral exercise while Poonch district became the first district to touch milestone of 80 percent polling.
However, in another first, the polling was today marked by large scale protests in both the constituencies of Poonch district including Mendhar-A and Mendhar-B over the charges of booth capturing with many candidates joining hands and blocking Jammu-Poonch road at Mendhar demanding re-poll in some booths and action against those responsible for alleged rigging. Protests ended late ....
