Oklahoma man, 22, found dead inside Oklahoma County jail

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A 22-year-old man was found dead Wednesday inside his cell in the Oklahoma County Detention Center, the fourth inmate to die in the problem-plagued facility this year, authorities said.
Officials at the jail in Oklahoma City said in a press release that Parker Stephens was found unresponsive in his cell and was later pronounced dead at the scene. A spokesman for the facility, Mac Mullings, said Stephens did have a cell mate inside the cell when his body was found, but at this point, there s no reason to think the cell mate was involved.
An internal investigation unit at the facility is looking into Stephens death, and the state medical examiner will determine the cause of death, Mullings said. ....

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A 22-year-old man was found dead Wednesday inside his cell in the Oklahoma County Detention Center, the fourth inmate to die in the problem-plagued facility this year, authorities said.

22-Year-Old Inmate Found Dead At Oklahoma County Detention Center

Detention center officials said Parker Stephens was found around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.
The jail s medical staff and EMSA were alerted, but Stephens was pronounced dead by the Oklahoma City Fire Department.
A detention center spokesperson said the medical examiner will determine Stephens cause of death while the jail s investigation unit will also conduct an investigation.
Stephens death is the third known death at the jail since the start of 2021 and the sixth death over the last seven weeks. ....

The Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Authority said:
“The exact time the escape began was determined by reviewing evidence gathered during the ongoing investigation. These types of incidents develop rapidly with many moving parts to manage simultaneously. The initial focus is to secure the facility and engage in a headcount of detainees, determine the location and safety of all staff, and accurately assess the situation as a whole. Without taking the time to fully understand the situation, we may inadvertently compromise public safety as well as the safety of our staff and detainees. As soon as the administration was able to verify all details of the situation, the appropriate law enforcement partners were notified immediately, as CEO Williams indicated during the press conference discussing this incident. ....
