PARKERSBURG An opening reception with textile art demonstrations for “Flora, Fauna and Landscape,” a textile art exhibit at the Parkersburg Art Center, is scheduled for 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday,

Wood County Commission approves COVID-19 relief | News, Sports, Jobs

PARKERSBURG The Wood County Commission approved over $200,000 to be made out to local attractions/nonprofits who were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
During its Thursday meeting, the commission unanimously approved $235,383.38 for 17 local entities to help with expenses and other things incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since many of these venues had to close down due to health regulations, they did not see the income they usually do in a given year and because of a lack of tourism dollars overall, their portion of the county’s hotel/motel tax was also reduced.
“For some of these agencies, (the hotel/motel tax) is their lifeline,” Commission President Blair Couch said. “That is basically the funds they use to operate. ....

PARKERSBURG An invitation-only kick-off celebration for the Parkersburg Floodwall Mural Project will be held 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the Parkersburg Art Center on Market Street.
A scale model of the Floodwall Mural will be on display and will later be on display at the Grand Central Mall. More information about the Floodwall Mural Project and how to make it a reality is at the Parkersburg Floodwall Mural Project page on Facebook or its website, http://ParkersburgFlood.org.

Belpre, Marietta, Fort Frye, Frontier, Warren, Washington and Waterford High Schools are allowing students to have prom this year with some COVID restrictions.
With COVID-19 restrictions relaxing, Belpre, Marietta, Fort Frye, Frontier, Warren, Washington and Waterford high schools will be holding proms this year.
Belpre High School’s prom will be May 1 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Parkersburg Art Center. The advisor of the prom committee is Katie Pence.
Belpre superintendent Jeff Greenley said prom attendants must wear facial coverings everywhere they go. Greenley said the students are thrilled to be having prom this year. ....
