Annual Give Local MOV event boosts funds for local nonprofits | News, Sports, Jobs

PARKERSBURG Donations to local nonprofits go a little further today as part of the annual Give Local MOV event.
Contributions made today through www.GiveLocalMOV.org allow participating organizations to earn significant matching funds and cash prizes.
The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation provides the secure online giving platform and underwrites campaign costs. Community supporters, led by Superior Toyota and the Mary M. Welch Advised Fund of the PACF, supply matching funds, with hourly cash prizes sponsored by various local businesses.
“COVID-19 has put financial strain on all area nonprofits,” said Julie Posey, PACF’s development and communications officer. “Those organizations providing direct assistance require more resources than usual to fulfill their missions and to provide meaningful assistance. PARKERSBURG United Bridge Partners is based in Colorado, but company officials envision the proposed $50 million rehabilitation of the Memorial Bridge as a very local project.
“We’re pretty happy about the economic boom this is going to create for the area, especially coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ryan Dolan, vice president of business development for UBP, during a presentation Thursday before Parkersburg City Council.
The company has submitted a bid to purchase the bridge for $4 million and rehabilitate it to extend its useful life by a minimum of 50 years. The deal is pending the approval of council and the West Virginia Public Service Commission. ....

Williamstown council discusses grants, projects | News, Sports, Jobs

Williamstown City Council met to discuss various grant possibilities in the near future ranging from improvements for the city water department to the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge.
Tuesday’s meeting began with the laying of the 2021-2022 levy, which was passed unanimously and was based on existing rates.
Lynn Erb and Julie Posey, from the Marietta Community Foundation and Parkersburg Area Community Foundation respectively, were present to discuss the Williamstown Fund for Excellence, which was established in 2015 and has given over $65,000 in grant money towards projects in Williamstown.
The projects funded in the past have focused on community improvement and development, and have included grants for swim days at Williamstown Pool, funding for the robotics team at Williamstown High School and money for ball field improvements, according to Erb. ....
