Mom details son shot by off-duty detective in emotional 911 call


Two 911 calls have been released that detail the moments before and after a man was shot by an off-duty New Hanover County deputy.
Bart Anthony Coniglio, 40, was shot by a New Hanover Sheriff s Office deputy, Leyla M. Davis-Woodhouse, Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly forced his way into two homes on Barnards Landing Road.
Law enforcement responded at approximately 12:42 p.m.
According to the 911 call made by a woman who identifies herself as Coniglio s mother, Coniglio had allegedly just broken into her granddaughter s home before going to his mother s house on Barnards Landing Road, across the street from Davis-Woodhouse.
His mother called 911 and hysterically said, Hurry, he s trying to get into my back door. It s going to get physical. Send somebody now. He s breaking in my door right now. ....

New Hanover deputy shoots man with long criminal history


A man involved in a shooting with an off-duty sheriff s deputy has a lengthy criminal history.
Bart Anthony Coniglio, 40, was shot by a New Hanover Sheriff s Office deputy, Leyla M. Davis-Woodhouse, Wednesday after he allegedly forcibly entered Davis-Woodhouse s home on Barnards Landing Road.
Davis-Woodhouse was just recently promoted to detective on Feb. 9.
This is not the first time Coniglio has had a run-in with law enforcement. According to the N.C. Department of Public Safety, he has a criminal history in the county dating back nearly 20 years.
Criminal history, and pending charges
Coniglio has had 63 offenses since 1996, six of which were assault on a female charges. ....
