Newly elected Barbados Boxing Association (BBA) president Dr Melissa Branford-Jones has acknowledged that the sport needs revival and said the new executive will pull together as many resources as possible to get the job done.
Branford-Jones was voted in as the seventh president of the BBA and the second woman to hold that position with 34 votes. Former Commonwealth Games bronze medallist and Caribbean champion Junior Greenidge accounted for 24 votes while Guyanese businessman Gardel Roberts tallied two votes.
Shortly after securing victory yesterday afternoon at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, Branford-Jones said to rebrand boxing the BBA will look at areas such as strengthening its membership and educating the public more about boxing. ....

Following up on reports, it was confirmed yesterday that the annual CARIFTA Games are indeed postponed again – moving from July 2-4 to August 13-15 as a result of the date change in the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) schedule for secondary school students.
The CXC exams are now scheduled for June 13 to July 16, forcing CARIFTA to be moved again, but still at the Bermuda National Sports Centre in Hamilton, Bermuda. The new date is now less than a week after the completion of the Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, Japan. During a North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) online press conference yesterday, area president Bahamian Mike Sands, said that this would be the last resort for the games. Head coach of the Barbados senior men’s team Russell Latapy is confident that his players can produce the type of results required in the first leg of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) qualifiers.
The Bajan Tridents are scheduled to depart the country tomorrow (March 10) for a two-weeks training camp at a facility called Cana Cana located in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, in preparation for the qualifiers.
Once that all-important camp has concluded to get the senior national side ready, they will travel from March 22 to March 31 to Santo Domingo where the matches are scheduled to be played at the Estadio Olimpico Feliz Sanchez. ....
