ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany is in limbo on whether it will lose out on millions of dollars in federal funding. State and local Chamber of Commerce leaders say a federal proposal that would remove Albany and several other Georgia cities’ Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) designation, has not progressed.
State leaders say they’ve actively battled the proposal and have not seen forward motion so far.
“We were able to work with the Governor’s Office, with members of Congress, to bring that issue up. Work with Barbara Rivera-Holmes here, and other partners, and what it looks like today is that that has been pulled back. I don’t think the administration is going to go forward with it but we’re watching it very closely,” said Georgia Chamber o ....

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Dougherty County School System and the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated some of the school district’s top students and teachers Thursday.
Each year, the district partners with the Chamber to name STAR Students who then name their STAR teachers. To be named a STAR student, high school seniors must have the highest score on any single test date of the SAT taken through the March test date of their senior year and be in the top 10% or top 10 students of their class based on grade point ....

$62.7 million contract brings Albany-to-Valdosta road project closer to completion

ALBANY â A four-lane highway project linking Albany to Valdosta and U.S. Interstate 75 South got a major boost this week with the awarding of a contract to complete roughly one-third of the remaining work on the project.
The Georgia Department of Transportation announced the $62.7 million contract with Reames and Son Construction of Valdosta on Tuesday. It is the largest of 15 construction projects now set for construction, totaling $103.74 million.
The 8.55 mile stretch of roadway in Colquitt County will complete the work from U.S. 319/Georgia Highway 35 north to Mike Horne Road. Eventually the work will complete four-laning to the Mock Road intersection in Dougherty County. ....
