GUWAHATI: Non-issuance of rejection slips to 19 lakh NRC excludees over the last one year, citing the reason of their exclusion from the final list, has led to suspicion in the Congress camp.
Lok Sabha MP from Barpeta Abdul Khaleque on Saturday alleged that the NRC state coordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma’s recent directive to district deputy commissioners for re-verification of the names figured in the updated NRC published last year and delay in sending rejection slips is an “injustice to Indian citizens” who have been denied the scope to prove their citizenship.
“Under the supervision of the Supreme Court, the final NRC was published in 2019 and 19 lakh people were excluded from it. These NRC excludees were about to get their rejection slips and they were about to get a scope to appeal within 120 days from receiving the rejection slips. Over a year has passed but the NRC excludees, a large number of whom are Indian citizens, have not got the chance to prove their ci ....
