The Shawnee News-Star The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art recently announced the winners of its High School Juried Art Exhibition, and all of the winners hailed from the Shawnee area. Winners were: • First place: Tragan Goodnight, Bethel High School, oil painting “Lost Flower Boy” • Second place: Leah Fisher, North Rock Creek High School, digital artwork “Marinette” • Third place: Journey Wilson, Bethel High School, woodcut print “Cowlick” “I am so thankful for the opportunity of having my art shown in the Mabee-Gerrer Museum, just having my pieces being shown was cool enough,” Howell said. “When I got the news that I got best of show I almost didn t believe it and once it hit me I started jumping up and down! By: Brian Mueller When James Glenn walked into North Rock Creek High School on his 16th birthday, he wasn’t expecting a band to be playing the Star Wars theme for him. “I was surprised a lot, like I was really surprised. I’m gonna rate it a 10 out of 10,” said James, a sophomore at the school in Shawnee. High praise it is from the Star Wars and Yoda fanatic. Brandy Bond and her drama class at the school organized the surprise celebration for James’ 16th birthday. “I’ve always wanted a birthday like this. They’re my good friends and they would do anything for me,” said James. ....
