SPCA teaches kids about animal welfare through empathy

A new program with the BC SPCA aims to teach kids about animals through empathy and critical thinking.
‘Humane education’ has recently moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Organizers say it allows the program to be more widely accessible than before, due to a previous lack of staffing in Northern BC.
“We want kids to realize animals have feeling just like them, they can see the similarities and differences they have,” said Paula Newman, Humane Education.
The program will also look at animal welfare, and encourage kids to think about how they interact with pets.
I READ with interest the letter from Rev Paul A Newman of April 7 complaining about why recyclable beach waste was not being separated by contractors and volunteer litter pickers. As founder of our local voluntary litter picking group, Dorset Devils we are extremely keen for as much waste to be recycled as possible. Unfortunately, due to extremely high rates of contaminated litter being placed into the beach front recycle bins by beach users, bin collections now combine both general and recycle waste together. At a later stage some of the recyclables are extracted. This is a sad indictment of society today when some take the time and effort to put their own recyclable waste into the correct bin but others simply don t.
