Fresno, California - A federal grand jury has returned a one-count indictment against Jatinbhai Naresh Bhakta, 29, and Roy Gene Drees, 45, both of Bakersfield, charging them with use of facilities of interstate commerce in aid of a racketeering enterprise, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced.
According to a criminal complaint, Bhakta purchased and began operating the Desert Star Motel at 516 South Union Avenue in Bakersfield in 2015. Bhakta lived in a unit at the motel. Drees also lived at the motel and was employed as a handyman and general manager. ....

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) â The owner of the Desert Star Motel and the general manager were both indicted on charges of use of facilities of interstate commerce in aid of a racketeering enterprise following the sex trafficking bust at the Desert Star Motel on Union Avenue.
According to the U.S. Attorney s Office, Jatinbhai Naresh Bhakta, 29, and Roy Gene Drees, 45, both of Bakersfield have been arrested and charged.
A release from the U.S. Attorney s Office said Bhakta purchased and began operating the Desert Star Motel in 2015, where he lived as well. They said Drees also lived at the motel and was employed as a handyman and general manager. ....

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) â The Bakersfield Police Department arrested three people Friday morning at the Desert Star Motel on Union Avenue following a nearly 2-year-long multi-agency human trafficking investigation.
According to BPD, Curtis Moore, 43, of Bakersfield, was arrested for state charges of felon in possession of a firearm and gang participation. Moore is due in court on Tuesday, according to a Kern County inmate database.
Two adults associated with the operation of the motel were arrested for federal law violations related to the human trafficking investigation and three firearms were obtained. ....
