Proposed Pittsfield Pot Dispensary Submitting State Application

In a recent outreach meeting, the budding dispensary outlined its action plans for security, diversion to minors, and how it will positively impact the community.

The venture owned by Kayley Stasiewski and Tommy Pytko was approved for a special permit by the Zoning Board of Appeals in February of 2020. It had received approval through the Community Development Board the previous year but the ZBA delayed the vote through a series of meetings with concerns over possible odor and parking.

Attorney Blake Mensing represented True East Lead at the meeting. In regard to security, he said cannabis facilities have to be buttoned up tighter than a bank or even a pharmacy. ....

Officer William Evans Laid to Rest in Adams

Evans funeral Mass was held at noon at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and officiated by Bishop William D. Byrne of the Springfield Diocese. Byrne had previously been pastor at St. Peter s Church on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

The funeral was private with family and friends, and a long list of public officials including Gov. Charlie Baker, Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, U.S. Rep. Richie Neal, state Sen. Adam Hinds, state Reps. John Barrett III and William Smitty Pignatelli, North Adams Mayor Thomas Bernard and City Councilors Lisa Blackmer and Jason Laforest and Adams officials.

A contingent from the Capitol Police were also in attendance along with local, state, and regional law enforcement, including Adams Police Chief Scott Kelley, North Adams Police Chief Jason Wood, and Pittsfield Police Chief Michael Wynn. ....

State officials announced Thursday the appointment of the first nine members of a new Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission created by landmark policing legislation signed into law late last year.
Appointees to the so-called POST Commission include three police officers, two attorneys, a psychologist, a social worker, a retired judge who will lead the panel, and an antiviolence activist, according to a joint statement from Governor Charlie Baker and Attorney General Maura Healey. They are eligible to serve five years. ....
