GEORGE TOWN: Security guard S. Ganesh and his family, who have been living out of their car for eight months, finally have a proper roof over their heads.
They moved into a People’s Housing Project (PPR) unit in Rifle Range flats here yesterday.
“My family and I are overwhelmed with the turn of events.
“We will forever be indebted to the state and to all those who helped us during our difficult times, ” said Ganesh, 33.
The family of five living in their 30-year-old Proton Saga Aeroback had touched the hearts of many Malaysians when their story was highlighted in the press and social media last week. ....

Family of five living in old car

GEORGE TOWN: A family of five has been calling a 30-year-old Proton Saga Aeroback their home for the past eight months.
Security guard S. Ganesh, 33, his wife Parameswari, 32, and their three daughters, aged six, three and eight months old, have been living in the car since their squatter home in Carnarvon Street was razed in a fire in April.
In fact, the car is the only home the youngest daughter knows.
Ganesh said he used to drive to places where there are public toilets so that he and his family could bathe, wash their clothes and have access to running water. ....
