Gov. DeSantis highlights homebound senior vaccination program LARGO â Gov. Ron DeSantis highlighted Floridaâs homebound senior vaccination program Feb. 18 during a visit to the home of Vern and Dottie Cummings in Largo where Vern, a World War II veteran, received his COVID-19 vaccine. Floridaâs homebound senior vaccination program is an effort between the Florida Department of Health and Florida Division of Emergency Management to increase vaccine access for seniors in Florida with limited mobility. To date, the state is leading the nation in the vaccination of individuals 65 and older, according to a press release from the governorâs office. Official reporting shows Florida approaching 2 million seniors vaccinated, though due to reporting lags, Florida has likely reached the two-millionth vaccinated senior â a milestone the governor celebrated with Cummings.

Kathy Castor announced that Tampa Family Health Centers would directly receive vaccines through a federal COVID-19 Vaccination Program. The full press release from Rep. Kathy Castor (FL14) announced that the Department of Health and Human Services has named Tampa Family Health Centers (TFHC) as one of initial 250 health centers across the country to directly receive vaccines through the Health Resources and Services Administration’s COVID-19 Vaccination Program. Through this direct supply of vaccines, TFHC will be instrumental in increasing vaccinations for marginalized and disproportionately affected populations. With approximately 2.5 million vaccines given so far, 10 percent of white Floridians have been vaccinated compared to just 4% of Blacks and 4% of Hispanics. Recent accomplishments include: Provided vaccinations to more than 230 seniors from 16 predominantly African American churches in St. Petersburg during the weekend of Jan. 30-31. It was the second faith-based outreach in the area. DOH-Pinellas is organizing a Vaccine Equity Task Force with varied representation to identify potential sites and opportunities for vaccinations in underserved areas.
